Recognized for her “…ardor and warmth…” [Houston Press] soprano Théodora Cottarel has been singing internationally in both operas and concerts. Born in the United States to French parents, she received her Bachelor’s of Music from the Manhattan School of Music. “Armed with confidence and purity of tone…”, after her first successes in Die Zauberflöte (Pamina) and Hansel and Gretel (Gretel) in New York, she triumphed in Don Giovanni (Elvira) and La Clemenza di Tito (Servilia) in Houston. She has participated in several festivals throughout Europe, notably speaking in Così fan tutte (Despina) with the Rome Philharmonic. Other operatic engagements include Beggar’s Opera (Polly), Little Women (European premier), Nina, o sia pazza per l’amore by Paisiello (American premier), Suor Angelica (Suor Genovieffa) and creating the role of Maria in Edward Poll’s Yerma. She continues to participate in concerts and recitals across the United States and Europe. You may have heard her in Britten’s Ceremony of Carols or Mozart’s Missa Brevis in Do with the Rome Philharmonic. She was a finalist in several competitions including Spazio Musica Competition, New York Lyric Competition and Classical Singer Competition. Most recently, she sang at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées working with both Jay Gottlieb and Lambert Wilson. She also premiered Tiziana De Carolis’ Dualités Déconcertantes under Vincent Renaud’s baton. Her upcoming engagements include a series of recitals both in France and the United States. |
